Arts and Sciences Division
The purpose of the Division of Arts and Sciences is to help students develop a mature world and life view by enlarging their perspective and deepening a perception of themselves and the world. Study of the history, language, expression, behavior, and thought of past and present cultures and societies provides foundational knowledge. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking processes that will lead to valid conclusions. Students are equipped to adjust to the problems of life and to respond to basic human needs.
Objectives
Students who complete the course requirements in the Division of Arts and Sciences will be able to:
- Develop and integrate a Christian world view.
- Demonstrate both oral and written communication skills that will enable students to express themselves effectively.
- Analyze and evaluate written and oral materials, using the principles of sound logic.
- Investigate and appraise American culture so they can more effectively participate as members of our society.
- Articulate basic knowledge of world civilization as well as the responsibilities of nation-states toward each other.
- Know the scientific method and apply it where appropriate.
- Increase an aesthetic sense for the greater enjoyment of art, music, literature, and other humanities.
- Learn and utilize the principles of group dynamics to improve skills in social interaction.
- Research, critically evaluate, and organize materials collected to produce a scholarly paper.
